For N.E.mation! 11, students this year are asked to use their creativity to produce animation clips centered on the theme of “Together We Keep Singapore Strong“.

N.E.mation! 11 has just closed the call for entry and we have received 760 stories from 437 teams. From these entries, 100 teams will be shortlisted for the next phase of the competition where they will pitch for one of the ten spots to convert their story idea into a 1-minute animation.

Jing Wenwho takes part actively in her Co-Curricular Activity (CCA), Infocomm club together with Haziqah and Samantha. They took part in this N.E.mation! contest every single year since Secondary 1 and was very determined into getting into one of the Top 10 Teams. This year was the first year that they entered the Top 10 Team finalist and they were really happy that their efforts paid off. Jing Wen is someone of great positivity that always makes funny puns which boost the group's morale through their never ending joy and laughter. She feels that being able to be in the Top 10 is a surreal experience and is superbly grateful to have gotten this opportunity to finally produce their very own idea through a video animation. All in all, it is the journey that matters and not the final results so even if the group doesn't win she feels that all that matters is that they've already put in their best efforts into this contest.
Samantha Gladys Tjong
(15 Years Old) Samantha is a shy yet determined girl and is also the leader of the team. Despite many failed attempts during the past few N.E.mation! contest. She still tried her very best to improve herself from all her past experiences in the previous contests. She made it up only to the Top 40 in Secondary 1 and only got as far to Top 100 in Secondary 2. This year she led the team under much changes to progress into the Top 10 of N.E.mation! 10. She felt really contented and honored to have been given this opportunity to turn their story into reality as they had to sacrifice a lot during the one week selection period during the holiday period. She also said that they had difficulty completing all theirhomeworkdue to the commitments required of them for this contest. However, they managed to balanced it out after getting used to the momentum. She enjoyedthis process and is glad that she had this experience with her fellow peers and wouldn't feel disheartened with the outcomes of this contest as she felt that the journey matters the most too.
Nur Haziqah Abdul Rahman (15 Years Old)
Haziqah went through exactly the same thing as Jing Wen as they were in the same team since Secondary 1. However, I feel that Haziqah has great potential as she portrays herself as someone that people can depend on. She is confident and cheerful which gives her a prospective future in the working industry. This is because she need not worry about any obstacles faced in the future as she can calmly tackle it in the most effective and efficient way possible.
Lynette Cheow (15 Years Old)
This is Lynette 1st time participating in N.E.mation! contest because unlike the rest of the team members, she isn't in the same CCA, Infocomm Club. This means that she has never been exposed to animation production before. However, the team was given the opportunity to add a member in when they got into the Top 10 Teams this year. Lynette whom didn't want to forego such a fantastic opportunity, decided to join them as she would be proceeding into Secondary 4 next year and would no longer get such a great chance like this. One of the main reasons that she joined was because she had saw some of the previous works from different groups before and felt that it would be interesting to try it out too. She is very determined in ensuring that the other team member efforts into getting into Top 10 is not gone to waste. Moreover, she felt honored and grateful for being added into their group especially when she did not have the same amount of experience as compared to the rest.

A Funny Team Of Positive Students Never Giving Up Despite All The Hurdles They Needed To Overcome Beatty Secondary School
Ang Jia Shing Adeline
(15 Years Old) Adelineis meticulous and focuses intuitively in whatever she does as one can easily see the amount of efforts that she put into ensuring that the images are as flawless as possible. She showed great compassion in her work as she enjoys animation too like the rest of them. She will always make funny jokes to ensure that the dynamics and the morale of the team is strong. A cheerful and bubbly person like her is really important in ensuring that the team does not sway away from their goals due to undesired feelings of negativity that may arise when stumbling upon a difficult problem. As mentioned, this project of using the Praxinoscope to showcase Total Defence in a different perspective requires a lot of time and efforts. They had to stay till as late at 10pm to complete whatever they set out to do for the day. This was to ensure that they could finish their product on time. However, being one of the last few to leave the production venue may be quite demoralizing but Adeline and Fazlin's positivity has really influenced the team in ensuring that they did not give up.
Evan Tan Jia Ho
(14 Years Old) Evan Tanmay be the youngest in the team but he works really hard in ensuring that the team succeeds in whatever they set out to do. He always strives for the best by ensuring that the work done is of a certain standard before proceeding on. He is meticulous and very helpful in making sure that his peers are well aware of what are the outstanding problems that are needed to be rectified and completed. He will try his very best to correct some mistakes that his peers may have made, which makes him a very capable and reliable teammate that the team can really rely on. He took the initiative to help out with the addition of colors to certain portions of the images that they were working on when Adeline ran into certain problems doing so due to certain software complications.
Muhd Zulfazlin Bin Zainal (15 Years Old) Muhd Zulfazlin is a cheerful and carefree student that always maintains his positivity in whatever he does by cracking jokes day in and out. He is a korean fanatic that always try his best to stand out with his exotic moves and poses so that he can look as fabulous as possible but will always make all his peers laugh at his "Self Believed Glamorous" acts. This is why he never fails to make his group lively and cheerful despite the long hours they had to do over-time to complete their entire project that is finally nearing its end this Friday. His role that strikes like a catalyst to boost the Team's Morale is really important in ensuring that they will never give up despite how tough it may be.
Chua Hui Min
(16 Years Old) Hui Min is the oldest among the entire team and is by far the only Secondary Four Student who took part in N.E.mation!. This is because most of them would stop other commitments to focus on O Levels but she chose to strive for her dreams in this area of interest and tried to balance out her studies with this commitments. During Secondary One, she joined N.E.mation! 7 and was one of the teams to make it to the "Top 100". This was a great achievement for the school at that point of time as it was the first batch of Secondary One students to made it that far. However, they did not make it past the "Top 40 Teams" but that did not stop her from pursuing her dreams. She was so determined in getting to the "Top Ten Teams" that she decided to joined back N.E.mation! 8. However, their team during that particular year didn't make it to "Top 100". However, not only did she not gave up but also persevered to join again this year after learning from all her past mistakes. She was then appointed a new position in a new group, NEtitanxIIwhich only already had Fazlin and Adeline. However, an additional member could be added when they got in the Top 10 Teams and Hui Min went to search for a friend that would be interested to join too. Evan showed great interests and decided to join the team. All in all, Hui Min showed such a great passion for this particular area of interest that she went to apply for Direct-Poly Admission (DPA). She used this experiences gained from N.E.mation! to write a 600 words essay that was submitted together with her DPA Application. She was superbly happy that managed to get a place in the Animation Course she wanted in NanyangPolytechnic.

The Ducks Are Having Their Heads Tight Up By Calculations & Planning
Software such as ADOBE Flashthat usually crashes due to certain unknown reasons, which the team rectifies by making sure they save their work every single time with CTRL+S every minor changes done on their animation.
They have difficulties creating the animations as it requires numerous scenes for just one particular movement that they want on their final product.

They also had difficulties focusing day in and out in front of the computer which is relatively tiring after prolonged hours in front of the computer. This is why they remain optimistic by staying positive with the help of their peers by cheering each other up with jokes andpuns. They will also take breaks in between to ensure that they are well-rested before continuing with their work.
They will also share food among themselves by munching on something to keep themselves active so that they can focus on creating a wonderful animation with minimal flaws.
Lastly, they had difficulties visualizing different scene on the animation so they had to act it on personally as it is easier related with a real life simulation. This allows them to build on a particular scene with the best expression and facial features that they found was nice.

Difficulties in Adapting To Software They had numerous difficulties in accustoming to the software interfacesdue to their extensive need of painting and designing of the different images that they require for their Praxinoscope medium. This is why they had to transit to another software called Toon Boom as it is more feasible as compared to Photoshop as it allows easier sketching and smoothing of lines that are the building blocks of any image. They are way behind schedule as the detailed refinements of their images require them to dedicate a lot of time. This is rectified by spending their own personal time to stay back to complete their work before ending off the day. Stay positive by taking breaks in between their production phase to ensure maximum focus when they are doing their refinement work.
They would also try to ask for feedback on their work so that they could get important pointers on how they can better refine their final product so that they could bring out what they are trying to portray of the Total Defence of Singapore.

Intuitive Way Of Using The Praxinoscope
"Reflection of The Past For A Better Future"
The four of them embarked on their journey by joining this amazing contest, N.E.mation! 10 not only to gain experience but also to fulfill their dreams in winning a trip to USA. This is the first year that they managed to be one of the Top 10 Teams that are competing for the Champion. Despite all the set backs, they wanted to show that a neighborhood school could win this competition too.
Hui Min joined this competition for four years straight from N.E.mation! 7 to 10 to gain experience as she is interested in this area of specialization. The group joined up with Hui Min since N.E.mation! 10 as they set their goals in aiming for the champion.
Despite numerous failed attempts, they felt that all those attempts were worthwhile as they managed to learnt a lot through their experience. This allowed them to improve themselves which brings them one step closer in pursuing their dreams. All of them worked towards their goal with this believe 'We believe we can achieve and to Achieve we must Believe!"

More About Their Story
Their story focuses on the reflections of the past as they mirror the pioneer efforts to ours. Their story encompasses two aspects of Total Defence; Economic Defence & Psychological Defence.
In the aspects of Economic Defence, they used images that are shown on a reflection of the Praxinoscope that will look somewhat like the video shown below. Some of the images includes a Merlion that turns into a $1 coin, NEWater bottle, a transformation from the past transportation methods, Trishaw to cars as one of the main mode of transport now and a part on Changi Airport as well.

As for Psychological Defence, they included Sam Tsui a depiction between Sam Tsui Women in the past and a construction worker now. This mirrors our Pioneer efforts as it shows how much Singapore has changed by using better technology such as tractors, forklifts and cranes to build a better nation.
They also included images that focuses on Racial Harmony, Singapore Flag that is a National Symbolization of Unity. Lastly, they will present an image of interconnecting hands which symbolizes people working together in a harmonious nation to build a better future by duplicating the mindset that took us this far.(e.g. SG100)

These four beautiful young girls joined N.E.mation! 10 this year due to their interest in animation. The three of them which includes Nur Haziqah, Ong Jing Wen & Samantha Gladysare in the same Co-Curricular Activity (CCA), Infocomm Clubs.

This really showed great emphasis on a quote "Nothing is impossible as long as you're willing to strive harder to achieve your goals" Therefore, this year they worked really hard and their efforts were finally paid off as they managed to get into this year's N.E.mation! 10's Top 10 this year with a new added Member, Lynette who was interested in joining the team when they were offered to add a new member in.

Their story places great emphasis on "Vision" and it touches on all the Five Aspects of Total Defence; Civil Defence, Military Defence, Economic Defence, Social Defence and Psychological Defence. Their story is told via the means of an animation that focuses on Total Defence in a perception that not many do.
In the aspect of Civil Defence, they want to show the importance of staying alert so that we are alert in protecting our country in times of any imminent threats.
Secondly, Military Defence is brought out in showing how family members that are not part of the military or have yet to serve National Service can support those who are currently serving.
As for Economic Defence, their emphasis is showcasing how all of us must remain open minded by making sure we open our eyes to new possibilities especially Aerospace Technology.
